The passions in connection with the victory in the presidential elections in the United States, Donald Trump, have not yet subsided, during which rumors of their falsification with the participation of hackers were actively discussed. Was this really possible? One of the leading US computer scientists undertook to answer this question.
According to the professor of the University of Michigan Alex Helderman, in this case one could speak about one of the most successful cyber attacks in history. To do this, hackers should first probe the polling stations for the possibility of penetration into computers.
Then, closer to the elections, having the results of opinion polls in hand, the attackers would start distributing malicious software that “steals” several percent of the votes in favor of the candidate. However, the professor is sure that in this case, the hacking would not remain unnoticed and would be suppressed.
As is known, in the course of the election campaign, electronic mail accounts of the National Committee of the Democratic Party were hacked, which was immediately hastened to accuse Russian hackers.
Edward Snowden did not stay aside . In his video on YouTube, he shared his vision of the probability of hacking a voting machine with an inexpensive memory card.
And yet, the reason for the victory of Donald Trump, according to Alex Helderman, is not in cyberattacks, but in the biased data of numerous opinion polls, and if there are any doubts about the results of the elections, they can always be checked manually.
